For if one subscribes to the notion that the Gospels are essentially unhistorical, he is confronted with numerous insurmountable obstacles, not the least of which is an explanation for how this sudden micro-burst of the most extraordinary literary output the world has ever known occurred from some anonymous source –or, even more problematic, sources– containing the most uplifting and influential spiritual content ever written, in a brevity both beautiful and baffling, and in four editions, one of which is markedly distinct in its own right. In other words it truly would be a greater "miracle" for man/men to have produced the evangelium in a flash of "inspiration", than it to be, quite literally, true!
